Everytime I try to play a Video in ".avi" I always can't see the film,but I hear the sounds. Some codec-problem I think, but what is missing?

I received this message while i was copying a movie i have in my playlist to a data CD. I have no ideal what it means. I went to the error index web page and it is not listed. Could someone please help me. Thank you
