Whenever my media player tries to update DRM or acquire a license, the process gets "hijacked" (i.e., ads pop up everywhere and I can't continue with the process). Is there a way to fix this?

I'm on 56k dial-up and I'm trying to play a streaming file (.asx I think) and whenever I try to do so the player says that it cannot understand the filetype, or that the file is corrupt. What is wrong?
