I downloaded a couple movies but they don't work. How can i run the Movie??

Like subject line says i just upgraded to wmp 9 when i
go to my usual websites and i see internet video files
clicl play with wmp and a whole new internet page opens
up with  i believe the html version of it ! all those

I've got windows xp and when I try to play ANY music
files I get the error message Cannot play back the file.
The format is not supported, or error code C00D0BB8. Does
anyone have any ideas what to do ??
