I'm getting this error message when I open AVI files. I can open these files in Quicktime. I am also using Movie MAker 2, and it uses Media Player. This isn't viewing files also.

An unknown problem has accured apeard when I tried to play an avi file on my windows media player series 9 on windows xp. the series 9 specifications state it plays avi files what am i doing wrong how can i overcome this cheers

My machine is running Windows XP Home edition. I recently installed
WMP 9, it looks to be 9.00.00.3075 filename WMPLAYER.EXE. I found some
WMV files are just not playable by this version, so I tried using WMP
6.4.09.1128 filename MPLAYER2.EXE in the same directory, and it plays
