I was trying to listen to perfectly legally available content from WMP in
their media guide and I got the error downloading codec problem.
I've tried everything that this site and Chris Lanier's blog have suggested
that was anything close to reliable.

When WMP 10 tries to convert audio files to sync them to my Compact Flash
card, it breaks.
More specifically, it will convert the first song/clip, then hold at 0% for
a long time on the second, then throw up this error:
