When I try to play a song from a different progam, windows media player usually automatically pops up and allows me to play the song, but now all it does it makes a sound and will not open at all...even when i actually go to the icon and try to open it...it won't open at all...if ...

I have windows media v.6.4. I run Windows 2000NT. All media (mp3,wav,mpeg,etc.) i play thru the media player runs too fast. Media played throught the cd player runs fine. What can i do?
