I can't open the attachment with error code 8004011, windows xp

How do I fix the above problem

Media Player (10) will not allow me to play an .avi video.  It says that it
needs one or more codecs to do it.  Any ideas??  

Pleas reply to the subject heading so I can read the file.

Can any one help me, i went to open an avi file in windows media player and
got the error messege class not registered, i dont know what to do, i have
never had this error before.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

when i want to play movies it comes up with a message saying the "file
format is invalid" :(

I read all the posts here, and I could not find an answer to my problem.
I never had problems playing movies encoded with XviD.
I few days ago, when I tried to play a movie encoded with XviD, I got error
