i have an .mpg file that i downloaded but am unable to play with media
player. When i press play the player says 'opening media' in the status then
'stopped' but no image is visible. are there any nifty freeware apps for
checking mpg and other video files.

See subject, I see many question (including mine)  that are put on helfpfull
whilel I did not get any reply on my question, how can that be helpffull??
I think a question can only be answered as 'helpfull' by the person that
asked the question (and not by others).

Use Windows Media Player (winxp version) to listening to CD's while at work.
Having a problem with it on my laptop. A nice feature of the program is that
it will (would) download the album info and display it as the music played.

While playing the Movie the error occor in windows media player
"The source filter for the file could not ne loaded (error = 8004024"
The File name is *.mov, which program will be used to open this file

Whenever I try to play a DVD in WMP 10, the video loads up but no audio can
be heard. Its nothing to do with volume or mute, there is just no audio.
Other DVD programs like InterVideo and PowerDVD play both the video and
audio. Any tips?
