When I try to play an avi file in WM Player 9 series on Win 98 OS, the message "Error downdoading codec" is encountered. Only the audio plays, the video does not play. Any solutions for the above?

I tried to open a Windows Media Player Audio file sent to me via email. It was one song around 4 MB in size. It downloaded fine. When I tried to play it. I got the message number 800C0008 "You've encountered an error message". My player version is 9.00.00.3250.

When using windows Media Player 10, my video files (most of mine are WMV) seem to be overbright (They look very white). I think it might be a codec problem.... how do I fix this?

Windows Media Player gives me the C00D1199 when I try to play some of the mp3 I have. Some mp3 work others dont. But can play it on Winamp and other programs like Windows Movies Maker when I add a audio file to the film. Im using Media Player 10 and Winow XP SP2.
