I've just reinstalled XP Home and downloaded all the Windows updates, but for
some reason I don't have a miniplayer option in WMP10. I thought this came
built in to the player - can someone tell me how I can enable/install it?

I recently got a new PC (Windows XP).  In the past, when I was surfing and
wanted to view a video on a web page, I could click on it and Windows Media
Player would launch and show the video.
now, it launches in a web page.
