first off, is it legal for me to rip a DVD I own? I want to figure out to put
a DVD from the CD onto my ipod, but I have no clue how. I figured I could rip
the DVD onto my computer and then transfer it from there, but I don't know if
I can rip a DVD. Any help is appreciated.

Let me explain the scenario.  I often open windows video files (avi. mpg, etc)
by double clicking them in windows explorer.  Media player opens and fills my
entire screen with the windows for media player although its is not maximized.
