Tried to play mp3 file...sound but no video, this is the

When I try to play an .AVI file in WMP 9 I get the sound but no pictures.

I have a whole bunch of videos, mostly just demos of games
that aren't out yet, but when I try to play them, windows
media player attempts to download codecs and fails, and
then there's no video, just sound.
