Working with Windows 2000 and Microsoft Media Player

I cannot play any video files on my windows xp pc.  Audio is fine.  I used
to be able to, but now I cannot.  I cannot play either avi or mpeg using
either windows media player or real player.  Do I have a video codec
problem?  Any suggestions on how to resolve?

Help.  I have deleted a number of files completely, however, the filename persists under "File", "Open", "Filename", dropdown.  My wife doesn't like the fact hat past girlfriends names show up in the list.  She is convinced the files still exist and that I am merely hiding them.  ...

Any file I try to play with window media player 9, including audio CD's,

My retrieving media information for CD's and DVD's from
the internet is blanked out (located in
Tools/Options/Privacy)and I cannot figure out what setting
is doing that. My Update my music files... is also blanked

I recently tried to uninstall movie maker 2.0 by deleting
