In WMP9 Options>File Types, the list shows many types with a checkmark
on a dark greyed background, such as for Windows Media file (asf),
Windows Media Audio file (wma), and Windows Media Video file (wmv).
What does that signify please? If I tick such a box again, it becomes

I had this problem for nearly a month (Windows 2000, K-Lite Codec Pack
2.20, 2.24 and 2.25). Starting an .AVI file in Windows Media Player
(and also in Media Player Classic) always lead to a green screen with
