My old laptop had a serious hernia recently and had to be replaced. The new (HP) one came with OEM WinXP Pro, Windows Media Player 10 and Intervideo WinDVD. I installed the encoder but it crashes reading .VOB files. On my old system it had no problems at all.

I have the following problem: For some unknown reason, after installing a codec, Windows Media Player 9 stopped playing sound AT ALL (browser and stand alone player). Other players worked fine.

I have my music on a server which is connected to an amplifier. This is then connected to my speakers which are in another room. My entire home has wireless. I play music around the house but I have to keep walking back to my PC to select songs or a new playlist.
