similar problem.  Basically i was trying to move my data off of the main
partition (a common request).  So i was moving/changing the Location (in

Anyone else having problems with the indexing options.  I am unable to change
indexing options.  All buttons on the indexing options window are disabled
and it says the index is turned off.

I have my basic documents on a network drive and would like to index them for
faster searching.  How can I do this?  It only looks like it will let me
index files on the local hard drive.

I have noticed that with build 5600 if you hit F2, to rename a folder, when
you hit the paste command, nothing happens and you basically have to retype
the entire name manually, no matter how long or how short it may be.

Okay I thought vista was supposed to allow you to edit file properties and
add custom tags so you could group and stack items by these custom tags,
there are even instructions in the help "add tags or other properties to a
file" which describes several methods to add/change ...

I right-clicked on the desktop and click "hide desktop icons and there doesnt
seem to be a way to get them back, right-clicking on the desktop no longer
works, please help.

It seems to me that pdf files is not included in the index while searching in
vista.
Hopefully i'm missing someting here, and it should work ?

why do some files in the resulting search show up in a blue font?

I cant find the default program to compress and uncompress folders... the
thing is that I accidentally chose to open my compressed folders with
notepad, but now i want to restore it to how it was before and i can't
because i cant find the default program installed with windows ...

While navigating folders with arrow keys, Explorer doesn't list
the content of selected folder item at the folder treeview.
I have to click the folder then Explorer shows that folder's content.
Vista build 5536 (Pre-RC1)

Do you now if i can instal vista and keep xp so i can switch between them.
i dont trust the vista for al my games and program (if the will work or not).

Whenever I extract a file from a zip folder or from a zip file from the
network, the file is set to 'read only'. That's annoying. Any way to change
that?

It's to bad that Windows Explorer does not recall the window size, position
& layout when you close and reopen it again. At least in Build 5384 it
doesn't.
