Help! This one has me stumped, even after reading through all previous
posts. The pictures and documents folder links have completely
disappeared from the users\username folder -- they're just not there any
more.

I don't know if anyone can answer a simple(ish) question I have.
Is it possible for legacy XP hardware drivers to cause disk file problems
with Vista to the extent that chkdsk needs to run?
I'm using Vista with a Samsung PATA drive and a nforce2 motherboard.

In the Documents folder, whenever I click on the icon for a file, I often
get an error message that "Windows cannot find file (path name).  Please make

I bought a new Window Vista-based PC and tried to open and re-write a file of
a Word / Excel application, but seemed those applications in Window Vista
style looked so weird to me. I couldn't do my work there because I couldn't
find any features used to be in Windows XP.

I recently deleted some downloads but the shortcuts still show up when I type
the name into search. The path is
recent items (c:\users\admin\appdata\roaming\microsoft\windows)
but when I attempt to delete the file, I get an error message saying that

In Vista click on any .htm file - Box appears: "Windows cannot find
'D:\file.htm'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again" and
a ping sounds - The .htm file immediately opens and the box remains until its

This morning I accidentally deleted my "Pictures" sub-folder.  It didn't show
up in the recycle bin and now I cannot find it.  It is quite important, is
there anyway to retrieve these files?

I have a friend who I installed windows vista home basic for. I have home
premium and the recent items works fine but on home basic it just says
empty. I have tried everything possible to make it work but I can't find the
source of the problem. Can anybody help??

just like many other people, I'm having issues with Vista's ability to save
folder views and templates as they're constantly changing on their own accord.
This was a little frustrating with XP but at least we had the chance of

Once the Indexing function of Vista is complete, I find that if I have my
Outlook2007 (OL) open for more than about 10-15 min, I get the message "MS
Search Protocol Host has stopped working...". Once this happens, my e-mails

I've started using a 500 GB external HD for backups under Vista Ultimate.
All the visible folders on it contain a total of about 300 GB. "Computer"
shows about 59 GB free space. Where has the rest disappeared to? I have
