I have  a folder containing 17 files:

I really need to change a system file called 'hosts'.  I've changed it many
times before, but today I'm not allowed.  I access the file, make a very
small change, then try to save it just by leaving the path as is.  Then I get
a message that says "Cannot save file, check path.."  ...

I am using Windows Vista SP1 (32 bit) and have Adobe Creative Suite 3 Master
Collection (including Arcobat Professional 8.1.2 and Reader). I believe this
includes the ifilter for searching PDFs.
However, the contents of PDF files are not indexed, only the file name is

I am hoping to find an automated method for deleting the Vista Search
Folders.  I tried command line scripts to remove the folder (RMDIR or
DELTREE), but I'm not having any luck with the search folders.  I am

Occasionally Vista and its permission handling really drives me nuts: I
needed to replace a certain .exe file in a subdirectory of "C:\Program
Files" but for some, to me unexplainable, reason Vista at first did not
let me delete the old version.

For me, a big annoyance in Vista is that the default is .JPG (uppder case)
and there doesn't seem to be a way to change the default setting to .jpg
(lower case). I upload lots of pictures to my website, and I have to manually

32 bit, Vista Business machine is part of a domain. Everything worked fine
using XP. Upgraded to Vista, and now Offline Files is not working. Tried SP1,
same problem. File server is Windows Server 2003 Cluster.
The "Offline Availability" says "Not available". What does that mean? ...

I have set Automatic Backups for weekly, Every Sunday at 7:00 pm to an

now, no matter when i try it, i can't delete the folder.  whenever i try, it
tells me that the folder is being used in another program.  what program?
as far as i'm aware, this isn't happening.  it's game ...
