why does the file sharing and public folder sharing stay on (green) even though you turn of network discovery??? once you turn off network discovery you can't file share anyway????correct????

I have been fighting the network problems with this new vista machine and my xp network. I can now acess my xp machines via the vista machine but when I try to acess the vista machine I am asked for a user name and password.

Hi forgive me if i am asking a question that has been asked a 1000 times, i wish to connect 2 pcs directly together wirelessly, once the usual stuff has been done i can see the XP machine from Vista but not the other way around, what am i doing wrong?

I've heard that one way to get Vista to connect with XP machines is to install the LLTD protocols on the XP computers. BUT, I've not been able to find the needed downloads for these protocols. I did find KB922120 which was supposed to have the required download:
