3 different usenet programs time out when getting large lists of articles. Even the list of groups will not finish. When I enable ECN the usenet works but http times out. any suggestions?

I am usimng an ABit MB - afatre a few hours randomly the network connection fails. It refuses to be reset or repaired and only fixes itself. The router works fine for the other machines connected.
