I have three Vista machines (2 desktop and 1 laptop) and after the latest MS updates (probably the C++ one) my network icon in the notification area is gone. I appear to be connected (because I am here), but any attempt to make the icon re-appear appears futile.

The only reason now that I'm posting this here in networking_sharing is if someone out of the blue can say, "Oh, I know the answer to that one!" Netgear doesn't. Microsoft doesn't. GameCrazy.com doesn't. I've learned a number of things and have a yet incomplete solution.
