I have the Windows 2003 Adminpak.msi installed on Windows Vista Ultimate

Windows Defender Blocking Startup, but No Programs are Blocked30 Dec 2006 05:44 GMT4
I have Windows Vista RC-1 and every time I start my computer, WD pops up
with an annoying balloon about it blocking a startup prog. When I click to
check, there is no program blocked, but it will say that all programs. are
permitted. Then when I close it, the same ballon pops up ...
I'm stuck, need help fast!30 Dec 2006 00:11 GMT3
Hi... This never happened during the tests but now I'm sort of screwed.  HELP!
I have two drives.  One with Vista RTM, and the other with XP SP2.  I flop
the cables to the drives depending upon which OS I need to use at the time
for testing etc.
Without prejudice, but OneCare sucks big time29 Dec 2006 20:39 GMT2
Without prejudice, but OneCare sucks big time – and yes, I do realise it’s a
beta. I’m using the Vista Ultimate RTM release, and OneCare could not detect
(let alone combat) one virus and one Trojan on our testbed system. OneCare’s
tuning option removes files nilly-wily without ...
SFCFILES.DLL and Vista29 Dec 2006 19:04 GMT1
it looks like as if Vista does not implement the Windows File Protection
(WFP) anymore.
I know that the User Account Control (UAC) feature and other File System
enhancement protect the Windows Vista files components. Now it looks like
Install applications without administrator privilege?29 Dec 2006 12:10 GMT5
Under Vista with UAC enabled, can I run the application installer with only
power user privilege or just normal user privilege? For some applications, I
don't trust their installers to run with administrator privilege.
Thanks!

i had this question in my mind for quite some time...
If efs is built to deny access of an encrypted file to a 2nd person, then why
should he be given access to delete the same file??
I have tried this scenario where 2nd person was able to delete the file
Help - Software Install & Use problems when logged off22 Dec 2006 19:44 GMT2
Does anyone know what is going on with this? My user account is a Local
Administrator (I am a Domain User) and I have a few challenges that seem to
be related to Access / Security such as:
When Installing I get some access denied issues (I do not have access or
Trusted CA dissapearing from certificate store21 Dec 2006 20:54 GMT4
I have a problem in that regularly (several times per day), i have to
re-import my CA certificate into the trusted CAs certificate store. For some
reason, it keeps disapearing, and applictions don't recognised certifictes
signed by the CA as being trusted.
Why am I getting EFS Backup Message?21 Dec 2006 15:08 GMT6
I  have been getting a request to backup but have never encrypted anything.
This
is verified using the "cipher /n /u" command. It showed no files. Yet, if I
look in Certificate Manager, there is indeed a cerificate for me for EFS. It
First casualty of UAC21 Dec 2006 14:21 GMT6
I've not have any problems with UAC in general, but today I tested
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i and there was a major problem with the
installation and the MSI did a roll back and that was that.
I'm guessing the issue was related to the installation of the low-level
Pseudo-Admin can't set System32 ACLs?21 Dec 2006 03:15 GMT3
I have stand-alone clean install of Vista Business 32bit, all on
defaults, UAC is enabled.
I need to rename a file in System32 (long story), but my Pseudo-Admin
account only has read access, and it seems impossible to adjust the
Protected mode and COM activation hosted in service19 Dec 2006 19:39 GMT1
From reading the working with protected mode paper it seems that it is
possible to elevate a COM extension at the medium level by registering in IE.
Would that be supported if the COM server is a singleton COM server hosted
under LocalService account service on the local machine ...
Notifying user when outbound connections are blocked18 Dec 2006 23:02 GMT1
Vista's firewall has a setting "Display notifications to the user when a
program is blocked from receiving inbound connections." Why doesn't it have
a setting "Display notifications to the user when a program is blocked from
initiating outbound connections", like Zonealarm is ...
What does it mean, Administrator?18 Dec 2006 03:38 GMT2
I've just noticed this worrying text from an official Microsoft KB article:
"If hotfixes for Visual Studio 2005 SP1 are released in the future, you
will be prompted for permission to install them. In Windows Vista,
permission is required in both the UI mode and the silent mode. If ...
