I'm upgrading my XP Home to Vista Ultimate, no issues in compatibility check, everything seems fine, except once I've typed in my product key the install seems to stop. The hourglass cursor appears, and nothing happens after that. I've left it like this for over two hours now.

Does Vista not have a "boot.ini" file, or some equivalent to steer the boot to the esired OS in amulti-boot situation? I can't find a boot.ini on my new Vista system.

After upgrading from XP to Vista, I now don't have a "Documents" or a "Music" folder. The folders simply do not exist in my "User" folder. (This might be related to the fact that on XP, I had redirected these locations to folders on an external hard drive.)

Well, it seems like a patch was downloaded automatically on Wednesday night that has hosed my system. I come in the next morning to find a system that is constantly reboot itself shortly after trying to boot into the OS. Running the Repair option on the DVD gives this message:
