Is it possible to go from windows 32 bit to windows vista 64 bit in a clean install or do i need to previously have windows xp 64 bit?

I purchased Ultimate and have been running the 32bit version. I just did a complete system backup and want to reinstall Vista using 64bit. I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing and want to make sure that I can reinstall all the data I just backed up. Can anyone help?

MS is going to have all manner of problems with XP unaware of the new Vista boot manager. Could they not update XP/Win2K to at least be aware of them, and avoid clobbering them? Roedy Green Canadian Mind Products

I am trying to install a couple of 32bit applications (such as Adobe CS2 etc) on newly installed machine with Vista 64bit. However the installer fails to recognize the "Program Files (x86)" folder as valid destination, because of the ( ).
