Downloaded documents put in temporary internet folder27 Feb 2007 19:34 GMT7
When I download a file or document Vista (premium) will only save it in the
temporary internet files folder - for some weird reason. Which, in the new
labyrinth M$ calls Explorer, is not the easiest to find and a damn
nuiscience to keep looking for
OK, that 'User Account Control' crap is off, but how do I . . . .27 Feb 2007 19:34 GMT12
Turned that irritating business off, but how do I stop that persistent
Windows Security Center Window from popping up telling me I turned it off?
I've got about 80 hours in now since Tuesday, making Vista more useable.
There are a bunch of neat features buried in there, and a lot ...
SATA controller question27 Feb 2007 19:26 GMT1
I recently purchased a pci controller card to install in my pc to add
external sata 2 capability. I want to use this external drive as my main
drive and not use the internal drive at all. I was told to turn off my
onboard sata controllers to avoid conflict, but nowhere in the ...
Why is Font Size a global "Personalization"?27 Feb 2007 19:10 GMT3
I have a user account for each family member on our PC (Home Premium).  Some
have better eyesight than other, so some want bigger fonts.
When you bring up the Personalization window, "adjust DPI" is one option.
However it appears to be a global setting; if my wife makes it larger ...
Vista RAM Requirements27 Feb 2007 19:00 GMT81
My understanding is that Vista Ultimate wants 2 GIGS of RAM to run smoothly
and reasonably fast.
Is that incorrect?
How much VRAM for Good Performance?
How to disable Hibernate27 Feb 2007 18:59 GMT10
There is a file called "hiberfiles.sys" at the root of the system drive
which is about 2GB in size.  I do not need the system to hibernate. So,
how can I disable hibernate and remove the above file?
I checked the Power Option settings as follows and hibernate option
Hidding XP from Vista27 Feb 2007 18:48 GMT3
I've been reading all of the post here, so I am aware that Vista and XP
destroy each others system restore points.  The suggestion most offered was
to hide XP from Vista.  How is this done, in simple terms please?  I would
like to have Vista on a new larger drive and leave XP on ...
MIDI synth27 Feb 2007 18:25 GMT2
Where is the MIDI setting in Vista, where one can choose a MIDI synth,
as is possible in XP.
Similarly, the device setting, for choosing what sound device is to be used?
Any reason Session ID = 1 instead of 0 on Vista?27 Feb 2007 18:21 GMT8
For as long as I can remember, Session ID for a console session has been 0.
We use this value to identify when our software is running from the console,
or running from within a TS or Citrix session. For a variety of reasons, we
need to know.
Webpage as Backgournd27 Feb 2007 18:20 GMT1
I cannot find where to set a webpage as a background in Vista.
Did they delete that option.  I upgraded from XP where I have myclander as a
background so it was always viewable.
Full or OEM?27 Feb 2007 18:07 GMT46
As someone who has built his own systems for many years Someone told me I
was wasting money paying for the full retail version of Vista (especially at
UK prices) and that I can't do a clean install with the up-grade, they
suggested I buy an OEM version.
Versions of Microsoft Office27 Feb 2007 17:30 GMT3
What is the earliest version of Microsoft Office that works on Vista?  I have
the Windows 95 version and it worked okay on XP but will not install on my
Vista Home Premium.
Thank you for any response.
Drag & Drop from Explorer to CMD window27 Feb 2007 17:25 GMT2
Just another thing I'm not getting to work. I have an Explorer Window, mark a
file and want it to drag to a cmd window.
Both windows are visible but nothing happens.
I could use in Windows NT4/2000/XP
Indexing problem27 Feb 2007 17:13 GMT4
I am having a problem with indexing not running.  It worked at first, but I
thought it was not indexing properly.  So, I clicked Rebuild in Advanced
Options for indexing.  I did this several days ago and nothing is being
indexed now at all.  I know in XP there was an indexing ...
OneCare & Windows Defender ??27 Feb 2007 17:05 GMT2
Everytime I open Windows Defender it tells me it is turned off and askes me
if I want to turn it on.  I am running OneCare and I am wondering if this
application automatically turns Defender off after each time I turn it on and
run a scan???
