my sound on my vista freaks out and shuts down or sometimes just sits there making the same repetitive tone. I have tried the sound card and speakers in a different system running the same driver with no problem... Any ideas???

I partitioned my drive into 2 partitions: partition C for OS, and
partition D for my data.  I unstalled Vista on C.  I have Documents,
Downloads, Pictures, Videos, etc on Drive D.  Suddenly I'm getting
"ERROR 0x80070571: The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable" on

When I click on "add gadgets", the gadget window opens, all the icons load in
the window and then they all disapear.  How can I get them back?  or load
them?

Came down to the machine this morning (running SP1 Basic), and found that it
had rebooted overnight. Is there a process log stored somewhere that can tell
me why, or what was running at the time? Thanks.

In addition to saving my files on the computer I also save them on CDs.
Recently a CD with very important files on it developed a fault, which
resulted in the CD showing empty.
The whole idea of saving files is that if my computer crashes (as it did, so

I have 2 boxes - 1 XP and 1 Vista. Both set configured with static IP's. Mail
accounts work fine on XP but won't send or rec'v on the Vista machine.  Rec'v
error "Outlook unable to connect to POP3 e-mail server".  Able to hit
everything else, network, web just fine on Vista box ...

look this defective vista is..kind of driving me crazy..one of us has to have
some relief..i am dealing with vista makeing the computer run super
slow...the little freeze ups..that all the hundreds of up dates and service
pack one..

In previous versions of Windows, the file association had an "advanced"
button that let me specify different programs for different actions (e.g.
one program to view a photo and a different one for editing).   Is it
possible to do this in Vista?  If so, how.

When I open Notepad the full minimized window does not open.  The bottom
boarder meets the title bar.  I click on maximize and the window opens full
screen.
