Avimark is the leading veterinary practice management software, and we're
using OpenOffice to create merge documents automatically from within Avimark
(rabies certificates, collection letters, etc.)  This works beautifully on
our Windows XP Pro machines, but on the two Vista ...
Is Microsoft incapable of fixing Vista USB problems?22 May 2008 22:56 GMT14
Vista evidently has serious USB issues on many computers (including my own).
What concerns me most is that these problems have plagued Vista since launch
and Microsoft still have not fixed them. Googling around to try to find
solutions to my own problems, I come across people with ...
Won't stay hibernated22 May 2008 22:40 GMT2
I am using Windows Vista Home edition, and my computer is connected to a
network through an Ethernet cable.  Hibernate used to work fine, but since
installing Service Pack 1 it only stays hibernated for a few minutes, then
wakes itself up again.  I have set it to hibernate after ...
sidebar opacity22 May 2008 22:21 GMT3
Is there any way to change how opaque the sidebar itself actually is?  I see
options for the gadgets themselves but not the sidebar.

How do I format a blank CD-RW disk?22 May 2008 21:54 GMT29
My new PC has a Pioneer DVR-111CD optical drive.  I have Vista Ultimate ver
6000 and the help files tell me to insert a blank disc into my DVD drive and
a dialogue box will appear.  I am then told to click on "Burn files to
disc", click "Show formatting options" and choose one.  ...
Internet Connection Sharing service enabled = DNS query spam22 May 2008 21:53 GMT1
I live at a university campus and we are seeing a strange problem.
If the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service is running on a Vista
machine, it causes the machine to send out multiple DNS queries when only
one is needed.  (Sometimes, as many as 1000 duplicate requests.)  ...

Vista's defragmenter has been on my computer since Vista was installed, but
recently I tried to defragment my drive, and got a message saying the
program wasn't installed. I think the first time I noticed its absence was
right after I replaced my hard drive. The instructions for ...

I am having some trouble getting to download sp1 for Vista to my home

(My) Computer directory/folder... how do I show the drives in groups/sections ?22 May 2008 21:32 GMT3
In my Vista Ultimate "Computer" folder, all the drives, removable devices etc are

the drives are separated into groups as I remember being the case in XP... there
would be a group called Hard Disk ...
New HD - Vista activation ?22 May 2008 21:20 GMT47
I am contemplating getting a new Hard Drive (bigger, of course by a large
margin !) and with the problems I have had with activation in the past,
despite being a bloody genuine copy (calm down, Philip, calm down) - how can
I go about activating on a new hard drive without ...

How Windows uses physical memory22 May 2008 20:30 GMT15
I'm trying to settle a debate with someone about how Windows (32bit)
allocates memory. In short, my opponent seems to think that ALL applications
will be swapped in and out of the SAME 2 GB of *physical* memory. I suggested
that this was nonsense and instead the OS will use ...
