hi what can i say i am a woman with her very first laptop and i dont know how

I have a desktop running XP Pro, SP2.  I have used a wireless network in my
home for over three years, with little or no problems (after the initial
exercise of acquiring and connecting the hardware).
Just recently I had a crash of Windows XP, and had to reload from scratch.  

I just started trying to use a wireless notebook adapter instead of a USB
network adapter with my laptop and I cannot get the WEP Network key to "save"
in the properties so I have to enter it manually every time. What am I
