I have been getting sudden blackouts with no error message. Screen suddenly goes blank. I then reboot. Can't figure out any pattern. Anyone else have this problem?

I tried to open "folder options" under Control Panel in Windows XP, however, I'm unable to. Instead of a flash window coming up for a second and then gone. Do you know what is wrong to my system and how to fix it?

When I open a program or just a folder I don't see a window on the taskbar. when minimized it disappear and can be found by Alt Tab. when I log off to another user' it's o.k. what can be done to fix this?
