I normally use a broadband connection but I'm not at home and I'm using a dial-up connection and after a couple of minutes I get and error that says lsass.exe error and the PC shuts down.

Just upgraded from ME to XP home. Several program, such as regedit, Norton Anti-Virus and some games, come up and seem to work fine, only to disappear completely after a few seconds. No close dialog box, nothing - just gone.

When I try to run scan disk after reboot I get the message "can't open volume for direct access". What is causing this lockout of my system? Could this be caused by a trojan or worm?
