I just tried to copy an .mpg movie clip from cd to desktop.  I can
play it on one of my computers from the cd.  But it plays better
from the hard drive I think.  So I tried to copy it from cd to desktop.

How long should I leave it before defragging my hard drive under XP Home
SP2?  I had thought that it should be done about once a month or so, but
when I open the Disk Defragmenter program and run "analyse" it says that a
defrag is not necessary.

I notice that original posts here are often removed, and I can only view it

I am running XP home with Record now for the CDburner and DVD player.
Recently I started encountering a problem whereby the CD player seems to
work fine but causes Windows Explorer to lock up and needs to be restarted.

troubleshooter doesn't work lately.
i click on it and nothing happens.

    Had my first AC power failure while my new WindowsXP computer
was up and running.  When power came back on and I re-started I
expected it to do some sort of a disk scan check like it did for
Windows 95 and 98 but it just came up as if it had been shut down

A while back I had a new HD fitted onto my machine and had XP Home put onto
that. So, the only thing different about my PC is the O/S.
Anyway, suffice to say, even after a lot of patching, defragging, virus
checking, updating and so on, a lot of my games started crashing to the

i have a compaq lapt with xp home edition, i have 3 user accounts
it was acting wierd, couldnt do system restore so i installed a fresh copy
of xp
i didnt format, just installed a frsh copy, nothing was deleted
