I get a message whenever I open a file or document. It says c:\...(doc name) is being used by (my name). Do you want to make a copy? What can I do to get rid of this? Thanks

I use Win XP SP2. My notebook pc came with 512 mb ram. I later added another 512mb but in my systems (Control Panel/System), it only show ram at 896mb and not 1024mb. Is something wrong with my new memory?
