Can't open "My Computer" .The flashlight continually searches>

I guess this is a pretty common problem; when I resume from my screen saver
my screen goes back to the welcome screen. I thought I knew how to fix it, I
did properties>screen saver, but the box for the option is already unchecked.
I didn't have a password assigned to my account, ...

Am trying to fix the grandkids computer. When I go to the Display
Properties the only tabs I have a Screen Saver and Settings. How do I
get the rest back?

I have just reinstalled WindowsXP pro and I now find that the small icon on
the toolbar directing me to the desktop has disappeared.
I can't find any way to put it back.

How can I detect If I have Service Pack and which version of Service pack in
my windows XP ?

I am using Windows XP Home Edition.  When I hover the mouse pointer over
anything like an icon, file, folder etc, a banner opens with a text
explanation of what the item is.  It's most annoying.  Does anyone know

as in my post title, my "insert" key is permanently in "depressed" mode. No
it's not having mood swings (!!), it just acts as if I'm always pressing it
although I'm not. I know this because: 1) continuous beeps issue at start up

This used to work but when I want to change users without logging off, it
won't switch.  It seems the icon doesn't recognize the tap.  The setting in
control panel is correct.  Can someone come up with a solution or idea to
check out?  Thanks!
