Newsletter from Ziff-Davis today. (Sept.28)29 Sep 2006 17:54 GMT3
I got the info below today.  On this past Wednesday I got a notice about an
update available and downloaded/installed it yesterday.  Is this and that
the same thing or are they different?  The newsletter sent me here.

machine. I have bought a new computer and went through the exact same
routine (control panel - language and regional options - languages -
details - language bar) The languages are correctly installed but the

I am attempting to attach a sound file (a song) to an OE message, but can't

Windows XP startup29 Sep 2006 13:21 GMT15
I recently installed XP Home upgrading from W98SE. Ever since, I'm unable to
start up completely to the desktop. When the XP start screen comes up with
the progress "dots" crossing the screen, they hang and the start up stops. I
have found that the only way to get a complete ...

Very High Memory29 Sep 2006 10:36 GMT6
"Very Low Memory" was an interesting thread for me.  My problem is just
the opposite.  I have 1GB of memory and the lowest I've seen it in "Task
Manager" has been 792MB Available.  Running XP Pro and minimum
programs (Money, Works, VuePro, VLC Media Player, Internet) .
Microsoft deliberately destroyed 10 hours of work29 Sep 2006 08:49 GMT24
Early this morning I set my laptop going on a 10 hour job that manipulates
large video files.
I have just checked it thinking it was about to finish and found a message,
I presume from Microsoft, saying that an update had automatically restarted
Copy DVD segments29 Sep 2006 07:35 GMT4
Anyone know of a good program which will allow me to copy only certain
segments of a DVD disc to my hard drive?  Each segment would be about 1 to 2
minutes long.  I'm using XP Pro on a fast computer.  Thanks in advance.

1am Backup not running under XP29 Sep 2006 05:52 GMT4
We have a freeware backup program called COBIAN BACKUP. It has been great
and has backed up fine until I got this new machine. Now it doesn't do its
1am backup. Could it be because XP goes back to the "log on screen" and
isn't running? Do those things in the taskbar just quit?

very low memory29 Sep 2006 05:04 GMT10
My computer has been running slowly, so I used a utility (Comcast Desktop
Doctor) to check its health. It said that only 9% of my 512MB of memory was
available. I purchased a Registry Sweep download and ran it. The available
memory jumped to 23%. The next day, though, it was back ...

My Niece is running XP Home and has forgotten her password. Is there any way
