i get that a lot on my new windows xp that my daughter bought me in the
spring.  i had windows 98 before and didnt have nearly the problem with
that--and refresh doesnt help at all.  i try to find out how to erase my
cookies and history... after each using but i cant seem to ...

I just installed IE 7.0 and as luck would have it - my pc is messed up.

I have been using a USB thumb drive.
I had it plugged into one port, when it didn't work any more in that port I
used a different one, when that didn't work any more I used another one. But

The behavior of the “Search Companion” in XP is different from the equivalent
feature in Win2K.
Win2K simply searches ‘real filenames’ whereas XP seems to search INTO files
which may contain other files in some compressed form – e.g. .cab files.

When I select "Open With > Choose Program..." in the context menu for a
particular file, the "Open With" dialog appears. Under "Recommended
Programs", a particular program is listed twice.
