I have a dell laptop running windows xp pro and recently I've found that when I leave the computer idle for a few hours, whether the screen is shutoff while the lid is closed or even if its left open, the screen is blank (black, but still lit like it's on) and I can't make it show

When I go to attach a file in email my doc are always listed in random order. I always have to sort by name. My computer at work has xp but the files are in alpha order. Where can i change my file order? I searched couldn't fix.
