When starting computer it used to go straight through process to blue windows
XP screen, but now it's coming up with "checking data for corruption on D
Drive".  I assume that this is an automatic process but I don't want to keep
seeing it!  How do I stop this?

Had a windows me machine that I decided to upgrade with windows xp
professional.  Upgraded with an upgrade disc, not full version.  After
upgrade was complete, machine rebooted, gets to windows logo screen, see a
flash of a blue screen and then reboots.  Have tried a repair ...

anybody got any ideas about all the disk activity on  my new xp pro machine? the activity led is going like mad even when everything's idle like it's just sitting at the desktop. this started after I uploaded a big file on the internet.

Several times a day, I get the message "Windows Explorer has
experienced an error and must close". Then, my computer freezes up,
and nothing works.

Had to rebuild XP system from scratch after hard disk failure. I open Windows
Explorer and position and size the window. To have window position and size
remembered, you have to use a hot-key while clsoing the window.
What is this hot-key?

Is it possible to set folder options so that small displays don't have
huge windows, and still use the one window setup?
Alternatively is there a way to set the multiple windows operation so
windows close themselves instead of stacking up on your screen?

On plugging in a USD pen drive, or inserting a CD Windows pops up a box, the
gist of which is...
"windows can perform the same action each time...What do you want to do.."
This box shows no options.

I am pestered to do automatic updates but can't see any description of what
the updates really are.  And I am not sure how I will know if the updates
came from Microsoft rather than some hacker.  Is is better to trust the
automatic updates or to go to the update site periodically ...

A program in that lauches automamtically when Windows XP starts keeps the OS
from starting up and I don't know how to fix this problem. If a program keeps
launching at startup that's the problem, how can I determine if is?

When I press control-alt-delete, there is a list of running processes, but
it is often difficult to tell from the name given, which program is using or
causing the process.  Is there some way to get more complete information
about the processes?
