I got new external hard drive. It works fine on the other computer but on mine.
It is "plug & play" but the "window XP" does not recognize, but it said
workins properly in "device manager" but it's not in "my computer".  I tried

-- on his Dell laptop running xp home, he was trying to update his vga
driver when he apparently got a message stating that the driver he is
downloading is interfereing with the driver already on his machine?? and ask

When I try and open this program windows installer opens to try and install
the program and fails. When I switch user to my wife's log on there is no
problem. Any ideas

When I try to open my Download Manager in MSN I get the error message:
"Windows cannot open this file: MSNC1.downloadhost".  I cannot open
the download manager or download any files.  How can I rectify this
problem?  I already tried a restore on my system,but that didn't

Everytime I try to open a file the file dialog windows goes to My Documents
(a folder I never use) . How can I change this? Preferrably to the last

When files are deleted (not sent to the recycle bin, but deleted) where
are they stored?
(I know they are stored somewhere, because an attempt at downloading a new
copy resurrects the old one almost instantly and I never, ever use the

The hard drive in my wife's Dell D-600 with XP Pro died and was replaced
by the dealer with a new install of XP Pro.  We lost all added
applications and data files.  I just got Humpty-Dumpty back together
again and need some back up plan for the next time a HD dies.

I've got a definite noob question. How do i clean out my system tray?
There are way too many things turning themselves on at start up. I
can't find an option in most of them to turn that off so I have to
manually stop them after the pc boots up. Its starting to irk me. I
