I've just purchased a new laptop which has windows XP installed on it. No CDs came with it. How do I create a back up CD in the event I need to reinstall XP? Thanks.

For some reason, all folders and icons have now a dark blue shaded background behind the folder/icon names, rather than a clear back ground. How can I switch this back to make it clear again?

My CD drive won't recognize blank CD-RW disks. The brand does not seem to matter. It use to work but quite possibly has been altered by another program. I can't figure it out. Checking the properties of the drive show that it is a recordable drive.

I am wanting to know how to save my favorite places just incase I have a computer crash... It has happened in the past and I lost all my favorite places...I don't have that good a memory to remember all I have saved...Thanks

Help! I've set up windows 1000 times probably and never had an issue. I have my bios set to boot from cd first, but it insists on booting from the hard drive. My computer is a Dell Dimension 4700

I have on XP HE the following : Zone Alert firewall (MS firewall is off), Avast Antivirus, AdAware SE, and Spy Blaster. Is this enough security protection? If not suggestions? Have tried Spy Doctor but it drags my machine down.

My user account is password protected. XP looks for password at Switch User and on returning after Standby, but on a cold start it does straight into my user account

My Adobe Reader ceased to work. It just locked up. I can not remove it with add/remove programmes in control panel. So I have deleted everything in the Adobe programme folder but it will not let me delete "AcroIEHelper.dll" because it sayes it is being used by another programme. ...

if I send a document to my printer, HP Deskjet 5550, and subsequently cancel printing, the document stays in the quey for days and I cant clear it.How do I fix this....is there a quick way to flush the que immediatly?

Everntually this happens with everybody. However could not trace a soluction from this newsgroup on spot. I have three softwares whose icons were in task bar and sudenly they disappeared. The programs are still in use.
