Why are the letters on the below Microsoft page so light or washed out

When I open my CD drive & try to erase a CD-RW disc, the option to "erase
this CD-RW", does not appear.  The "write these files to a CD" option does
appear.  I highlight the files on the CD-RW & try to delete but it gives me
an error message that the CD-RW is a read only & will ...

My Toshiba laptop running XP-home doesn't recognize a blank CD-RW when
