In the TCP/IP properties you can set the IP address. WHAT IP address? On a P2P LAN are you setting the address of the machine you are on or are you setting the address of the other computer you want it to look for and connect to?

I have a HP Pavilion laptop and when I press certain keys I get a different response e.g. pressing '@' gives '"' and vice versa. In particular I cannot get the '|' (pipe) symbol, which is causing me grief using Linux.

My IT professional at work has recommended to upgrade from XP home SP2 to XP Professional SP2 on my home PC. Is this advisable, i.e. what are the benefits? What is the least expensive way to do this? My OS was installed by PC manufacturer.

I used to have MSN as my default search, when I typed in the address line. Now, Verizon/Yahoo search comes up. I don't have Yahoo toolbar installed. How do I set the default so when I search from the address lines MSN comes up?

What does this means?? "some files on this volume could not be defragmented"? This is from my daughter's computer, hers is Window XP. I've tried to defragged her computer and this message showed up. How or what can I do about it?
