so that I coul upgrade my system to Professional.  ...

I have to manually start several services that are configured to start
automatically. These are Print Spooler and InCD Helper. There may be more,
but these are the ones that affect me.
After I start them manually, all works perfectly until I reboot.

I am not aware of any selection that I've unintentionaly made, but a 'My
Computer' Window appears open on my desktop at the end of every start up.
(nothing in the 'Start Up' folder to request it)

"Can't find the specified file" (but doesn't tell me what file)

I keep getting a message that windows found new hardware.  Then it says there
was an error installing new hardware.  The hardware it thinks it needs to
install is my printer. Well, my printer is already installed and working fine
and this stupid message keeps poping up every time ...

I work in a large office most of my machines are XP pro and we use f:
as our fileserver drive, we have many digital camera's. when you
connect them to a pc via USB, XP assigns them drive f: also, so we
have to go into disk management and manually reassign the camera drive

I would like to make a specific desktop theme the default in xp, so when
users login they cannot change the theme. I would like to do this from the
