My operating system is XP.  I am unable to open any administrative tools,
i.e. Task manager, defrag.,  Computer Management, etc.  I can't even open
Event Viewer to see what might be going on.  When I click on any of the
above,  it flashes in front of me then immediately ...

Hi.  When I connect to the Internet, the little download windows update
gold shield icon appears in my taskbar.  But only for a few moments.  It
then disappears and my connection icon stops showing activity.  Even if
I disconnect/reconnect my isp, the icon won't reappear until I ...
Help on XP Professional Installation Upgrade...16 Apr 2005 17:11 GMT3
I recently wanted to upgrade my PC from Home to professional...I however
didn't realize I had an XP pro disk, not an upgrade disk.
Anyway, I didn't delete the partition, so I still have all my files present.
However, I'm having two problems:
Registry keys that refused to die !16 Apr 2005 13:06 GMT5
I have Windows XP Pro, and I recently uninstalled a program and, not
surprisingly, it left some residue behind in the Registry, so I
decided to clean it out.
My understanding is that Registry keys can be deleted by first

Lost domain...reconnect...lost my profile16 Apr 2005 02:39 GMT8
Our network had a crash of the domain controller server. When the server was
rebuilt, I needed to reconnect my WinXP machine to the network. The process
required me to leave the domain (join a workgroup), and then rejoin the
domain.
Lost domain - rejoin domain but account is damaged15 Apr 2005 21:46 GMT1
This is related to a posting of mine from 4/13/2005, but the problem seems
to be more serious than I originally noticed.
I have a WinNT 4.0 domain. The primary domain controller's hard disk
crashed, and the backup domain controller did not do its job. As a result, I
Modifying Processes Startup15 Apr 2005 20:39 GMT2
Since the last XP patches, I have had a minor problem with Norton (NAV2004).
Some kind of additional delay has occurred, so Norton complains about not
being enabled - and then stops grumbling when the start-up routine catches
up and it is "enabled". The order of icons coming up ...
Favorites to another HD15 Apr 2005 17:34 GMT5
I need to move my Favorites bookmarks from a dying HD to
another HD in the system.  But Favorites seems to be more
than just a folder.  Could someone describe the procedure
to move the contents of the Favorites folder to the Favorites
Changing Internet Options remotely15 Apr 2005 04:19 GMT4
Is there a way to change a user's Internet Options remotely on a domain? I
have a user at another site whose Internet Options are blocked by a GPO, so I
can't just walk her through it on the phone. I know each account profile on
the computer has its own Internet Options settings, ...
is it necessary for new users to be local admins?15 Apr 2005 02:51 GMT2
We are upgrading to xp, and we need to know should we limit our users so
that they are not local admins.  Will this break any software in it's normal
day-to-day operations (aside from installation issues)?
Thanks.
Icon Pictures Missing15 Apr 2005 02:32 GMT1
No more icon pictures! Seriously!
I have a few program icons now, that are located in my taskbar, and on my
desktop that have lost the pictures associated with the icon. All the folder
icons and icons in the hardrive are appearing as the Microsoft "unkown file"
XPS2-Download Blocked15 Apr 2005 01:15 GMT3
I am assuming that this is an XPS2 issue: I am unable to download a tiff file
from a trusted website, using a Java program.  The boxes pop, and nothing
downloads; there are no messages confirming why it's not coming down.  Did
SP2 block this based on a re-configuration?  Any ...

I installed a few cool fonts I found on the internet and then I tried to open
the font folder and it crashed Windows. Now EVERY time I open the font
folder, it crashes. I have tried opening it different ways, changing folder
view options, deleting all the fonts I installed, ...
