Which processes fire up at the very moment a succesful dial-up

I believe I was infected by a virus not sure exactly which one but the
payload was winupdate which had my CPU at 100%. I was unable to start the

I have somehow disabled the task manager in Windows XP on my PC at home.

I just heard that you can disable Internet ports in XP. I'd like to disable

I just did a clean reinstall of XPpro and all of the icons on my desktop
now display with outlines (ie: the glyph is white with a black border)
rather than as solid. It doesn't matter what font I select for the icon
