My compaq presario laptop ran an automatic update for windows and I just
clicked install now.  After it attempted to reboot I only receive this error
message and nothing will load.  Anyone know how to fix this?  I do not have
my CD's because I am in transition from Germany back ...

When I open a new window it only opens half the window. When I expand it and
close the window and reopen it, it opens again as a half window. How do I set
the configuration to open all windows as full windows? Thank You

I am trying to install the newest version of Macromedia Shockwave (10). I
currently have version 8 installed. Every time I try to install version 10,
it tells me that I do not have administrative privileges, even though I do!
I can't get past this.

Our kids have password protected their log ins and have forgotten what they
are.  (They don't use this computer any longer,)  I'm the administrator.
Can I find out what it is?

Hopefully someone can help me with this. I have 100 XP Pro desktops. None of
them have local users. I want to schedule 50 of them to reboot one day and
the other 50 to reboot on another day. I cannot schedule tasks on the PC's
due to AD policies in place.

I am trying to reinstall my Palm Desktop after a hard drive crash but
everytime it auto runs,  error 1607 Unable to install. Installshield
scripting runtime comes up and I cannot install the software.

Hi,
I have three profiles on my Windows XP Pro (SP2) machine, one admin and two
that I use to demo with in training sessions.  Recently one of the demo
accounts came up with an error message when I tried to log in saying that the

I accidentally corrupted my windows registry files because instead of hitting
"export" registry I hitted "import". After that I wasn't able to boot Windows

I have inherited Windows XP Pro edition, when I bought a PC from my firm. I
thought I would reformat & reinstall Windows, which was all fine. However,
when I installed XP, I didn't set an administrator password. Now every 30
days, it tells me the password needs to be changed.

I recently added a new administrative account, and deleted the old one...  
But Windows still tries to automatically log on with the old account.  
Obviously, it gives an error message saying the profile can't be found.  I've
tried logging on in safe mode, but I get the SAME error ...

I currently have a system with 4gb memory in it but it only registers
2.86Gb, Motherboard can handle up to 4Gb, is there somehting with XP stopping
this from fully registering.

It was working fine in windows 2000 ie when ever i give the start ip

Windows XP Home Edition.  When I go to Start - Programs the only
listing is the entry "empty".  It used to list all my programs but now
it does not list any.  In Documents and Settings/All Users/Start Menu
everything looks like it should.  However there is no Start Menu in

Firstly: I want to be able to map a network drive within my local hard
drive. Rather than just having a network drive icon within My Computer. How
can I do that?
