Well I reinstalled XP SP2 then after working for awhile i noticed my sound
was not functioning. The icon was not showing up on the toolbar currently
running programs( which it usually does ). Then went into ADD\Romove programs
to uninstall.

I have an XP workstation that is running some server software.  Can someone
tell me how I can set the Power to automatically restart after a power outage
- as soon as the power is returned????
I know this can be done... I just am not finding how!  I did try the start

Hey All, I've been trying to help my mom with her PC. She has an older HP
with windows XP with SP2 she inherited from my brother and I wanted to open
up the task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and see what services were running and
look at performance variables.

I am on Winxp SP2 and all of a sudden my explorer.exe is freezing. If I go
to my task manager and end the explorer.exe process i can run programs and
such from the file-->NewTask(run) option. All my software works fine withouth
the explorer.exe running.

I told my brother that I could clean up his computer by rebooting his
computer with a startup disk and it should alleviate all his problems.  
However, he was running XP home but had the XP home edition "upgrade" CD

when I look at Startup in MSconfig, I notice that there five entries that
are not necessary so I tried to delete them.
I de-ticked the box for each of them and clicked apply. I then re-started
and the usual screen came up telling me that I was using a modified Startup.

Ok this is about my cpu it gets very loud and fast but i no the cause its
'system idol process' when i open the task manager it says its taking up 92

I ran Checkdisk/fix errors and it changed all my favorite Icons (and my
favorite wavs).  How do I get them back?  This is the first time it did
this.  Is there any way to stop it from happening again?
