Recycle Bin always indicates that there are 18 messages, but none17 Dec 2005 23:21 GMT3
Weird issue with my recycle bin - every time I empty it, it always displays
"Are you sure you want to delete these 18 items?" no matter how many files
are actually in it. Even after emptying it, I get the same prompt stating
that there are 18 files to be deleted...

I cannot locate my password for administrator.  Is there some way to create
another? I do have another login & password but need to use my administrator
priviliges.

I am trying to format my C drive to wipe out ME and load XP for a clean
boot. Unfortunately, I ordered a copy of an OEM version (due to my
ignorance on what OEM version is..but now I know) and it is
non-returnable. It is my understanding that it will only load on a

I have a system error that says a system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Windows applications.  The file is
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.  Is there some way to upgrade this file?  I
am using XP home edition.

G'day. For some reason, when I right click the Desktop, I can no longer
"Create a New Text Document". TXT extensions are registered with Notepad.
This just happened this AM.
Any Ideas???

I deleted partitions on two mirrored hard drives.  I went to reload an
operating system and now win xp doesn't recognize hard drives.

I installed a new motherboard and serial hard drive.  Installed Windows XP
Home on new drive.  I piggy backed my old hard drive so as to be able to copy
data and some programs off of it. However, Windows does not recognize it.  I
find it in the disk manager, but it is not ...

As you can see in my configuration (see below) I run 2 video cards and 3
monitors on my PC.
On the GF4 TI4600 I have 2 monitors attached; On my GF FX5200 PCI I have 1
monitor attached. And all this works very well.

When creating a new default user profile, Microsoft doesn't recommend giving
permissions to Everyone. Why is this and what are my other options if I want
all users to be able to use this profile? Do I not assign anyone rights to

Does anyone know how to turn off PnP?  I have a USB to Serial port adapter
that I use with my GPS, when I plug it in, windows finds the adapter and
serial ports, but if I have the GPS turned on or as soon as I turn it on,
windows thinks that the GPS output is a ball point mouse.  ...
