When I run msconfig to review the startup programs I see an entry that is completely blank under the columns 'startup item' and 'command'. The only text is under the 'location' column and it reads: HKLM\SOFTWARE\microsoft\ windows\currentversion\run.

I added a new user and even though xp security tells me zone alarm and AV are running, their icons do not appear in the notification area. How do I correct this. I'd feel better if I could see the icons.

Thanks in advance for assistance, I greatly appreciate it! I click on the Control Panel and then Add or Remove Programs, the Change or Remove Programs button displays and there is a note "Please wait while the list is being populated ..." but no programs ever appear.

My friend has two laptops both with the correct Regional and Language settings English (United Kingdom). On the newer laptop, bought a few days ago, when he presses the double quotes key he gets the @ symbol, and vice versa.

I have some annoying programs at startup - even though I turn of the option in the program window it doesn't retain the setting. I have even turn it off in msconfig but again, it doesn't retain the setting. Anyone any ideas what could be the problem here??
