I recently had to reinstall Win XP Professional (sp2).  Everything went
smoothly except for the monitor.  I originally had an old crt type
monitor connected.  resolution is 640 X 480.  When I connect a flat
panel display, I can't change the resolution.

I have a dell laptop whose disk just broke.  I have purchased a new Hard
Disk and installed it.  This laptop was originally sold with windows XP home
edition, but I have two unused windows XP professional licenses from previous
laptops (that are not using the license...).

I am working on a customers XP Home Edition with SP2 computer and there
arn't ANY short cuts on his desktop.  When I try to create a short cut, it
acts like it saved it but it does not show  up.  So I try to save another
shortcut with the same name and it says it already exists!

I have a 4 year old computer which came with Windows XP Home Edition.
Lately, it had become unstable (re-booting frequently for no reason) and very
slow (click Start, wait 2 seconds, click Shutdown, wait 4 seconds).  So I copied
all of the data files, including a LOT of music files, ...

For quite some time now, I have been trying to use the Hibernation method of
shutting down as I used to do successfully.  I have tried using the Standby
plus Shift keys to access Hibernation because I have more than 1Gb of RAM,

i have some problems with accessing WMI; so i ran WMIDiagn; however, the
script did not run because, it says, i am not a full administrator of the
machine. But it is not true; i am my machine administrator. Any idea so that

Hello, I  have  XP.  On  the  LEFT  side  of  the  desktop  appeared  my  
FOLDER   TASKS.  I  don't  know  what  happened, but  I  wanna  get  rid  of  
the  Folder  Tasks.  Please  help  if  you  can.

I recently downloaded a catalog from Real Arcade (what a mistake!)  and in it
was a virus.  I already took care of it, but it left me a little present: it
corrupted the file "aswRdr", from the system32 folder.  Does anyone know if
Windows -or whoever- can provide me with this ...

I want to prohibit a specific process to run, it's named "red.exe". I am not
an administrator on the network but the program does run under my username
and my priviliges. I need a program or sript that look for the process
"red.exe" and kills it automatically.

How can I force a file to open with a certain application?  I need both .tif
and .tiff to open with kodakimg.exe.  I tried this batch file and it didn't

I am running Windows XP Pro w/ Service Pack plus updates in workgroup mode
and I am wondering if I can set the default location of the My Documents
folder to another location other than under Documents and Settings on the
Boot Partition drive, e.g. C: drive.

I have just purchased an external hard drive and it works successfully.  How
can I now make it my default drive (G) to ensure all files being saved go to
it?
