My CD/DVD drive will not recongnize DVDs anymore. I can put in a data cd and it will open, but when I put in a DVD it will not even recongnize it. When a dVD is in, and I open the drive, it shows nothing there... HELP

Although the message 'Saving settings' is displayed when XpSp3 is shut down the fact the new toolbar and quick launch toolbar do not reappear when the system is started again. The desktop takes on the 'icons aligned by grid' therefore the recycle bin

I have a machine with XP Home that does not shutdown or restart. It hangs on the screen the says Windows is shutting down. Is there an way to check what processes and/or threads are closed during shutdown? How can I check what the OS is hanging on during shutdown?

Running Win XP Home w SP2 and ZoneAlarm Firewall and Security on Fujitsu C series Laptop. Casually attempted to upgrade SP2 with SP3 download and it failed. Laptop seemed ok in spite of warning that XP might not work right.
